Zip™ Breakaway Cable by Fastway

We are giving away 20 Zip breakaway cables

Is your old breakaway cable dragging on the ground? Is it frayed or broken? Stop stabbing your fingers on an old rusty cable. Replace it with the new Fastway® Zip™ breakaway cable; the cable that doesn’t drag.

The Fastway Zip keeps the cable up off the ground and out of harm’s way while you’re towing. And when you’re not towing, the cable easily clips to itself and stays out-of-the-way, instead of dangling all over the front of the trailer.  If you are looking for a new cable.  Here is the one you want!

Right now at Lerch RV, you can pick up a Fastway Zip breakaway cable for FREE!  Yes, you read that correctly.  We are giving away one Zip breakaway cable to the first twenty customers who ask for one.  You must come to our dealership, and ask for yours at our parts counter.  Supplies are limited to 20 breakaway cables.  They will go fast…

You could camp this Summer at Yellowstone National Park for a mere $22.50 a night, if you can get the reservations, or you could park your RV free by volunteering as a campground host.  This is just one of the hundreds of volunteer opportunities that come with some sort of lodging via the National Park Service this year.

RV & Camping News

News from around the campfire.

– A 35-year-old travel trailer yielded up some secrets to its new owners. In a small black box, hidden away inside the trailer, were military medals belonging to a man dead since 2001. Evidently, Dr. Edwin Harrison, the sixth president of Georgia Tech, hid the medals inside sometime before his death. After the trailer changed hands, new owners found the box and went on a “treasure hunt” to find the owner. They recently turned over the box and its contents to Harrison’s son in Cobb County, Georgia.

– Authorities tell WKBN a Youngstown man has died after being burned by a fire that was sparked by a space heater at Green Acres Lake Park in Diamond, Ohio.

– To help out Canadian farmers in tight times, some local and federal laws encourage “agri-tourism,” wherein farmers can allow folks to camp on their property and get a sense of living on the land. But the mayor of Kelowna, British Columbia, says he figures at least half the “farmers” in his area are frauds, operating what he calls “year around trailer courts.”

– For the ninth consecutive year, Camping World RV Sales was announced as America’s No. 1 seller of tow-able and motorized RVs for 2013 by Statistical Surveys. Camping World RV dealerships amassed 47 individual dealer awards for being the top-in-class in their respective states. Due to having the largest amount of sales locations.

– BOGO (buy one, get one) offers abound, and Kentucky State Parks are joining in. Buy one night of camping in April or May, get the second night free, Sunday through Thursday. Use the promo code “SPRING14” on the state parks’ Internet reservation system.

~News From The Weird~

– Make my day? A campground manager in West, Texas, had his own Clint Eastwood moment when he found three folks who appeared to be planning to steal LP cylinders from rigs in his campground. The manager brandished a shotgun and ultimately discharged it, hitting one. Not too bright to argue with an armed man — but it figures — one of the would-be burglars was named Looney.

BANTAM, Conn. :  A man charged for accidentally setting a camper ablaze while horsing around with friends led state police right to his stash of marijuana plants, according to Register Citizen.  A state trooper investigating a trailer fire at the home of 18-year-old Christopher Jacquier and his mother, discovered several potted marijuana plants. Register Citizen explains 13 plants, or nearly a pound of marijuana, were seized from the property, along with rolling papers, a small baggy of marijuana, an electronic scale, a pipe with burnt residue and a water bong.  Jacquier told authorities investigating a fire he accidentally set a trailer ablaze while burning scrap wood. He told authorities he asked his mother for permission to burn the trailer, but she wouldn’t let him, Register Citizen reports.

–  A man was jailed Monday after he led police on a wild chase through Placer County, Fla. that ended with several trailers damaged, according to KCRA.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Department told KCRA the man downed a large number of prescription pills in a suicide attempt, then drove off. The man was drinking beers as deputies followed him.  The chase ended in an RV park in Colfax. The driver smashed into several trailers, causing significant damage, KCRA reports.

Severe Weather Hurting RV Industry

Thor Industries Inc. (THO) issued a preliminary sales target for the fiscal second quarter that missed Wall Street’s projections, as the recreational-vehicle maker said poor winter weather hurt sales and production.  The severe weather conditions in many parts of the U.S. ahead of the holiday season and in early 2014 have led many consumer-focused companies to issue disappointing outlooks. Auto sales in January were also broadly affected by the weather, with a number of companies saying traffic was hurt as freezing temperatures and snowstorms dissuaded consumers from shopping.

Thor, which manufacturers brands including Four Winds and Dutchman, expects preliminary consolidated sales from continuing operations of $636.3 million. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters projected total sales of $718 million for the quarter ended Jan. 31.  Thor expects sales of the larger towable RV business to drop 9.3%, partly offset by a nearly 44% jump in sales for the smaller motorized RV business.  Chief Executive and President Bob Martin said severe winter weather that plagued the Midwest hurt sales. Mr. Martin said the company’s Indiana operations also lost several days of production due to severe cold and heavy snow.  Ultimately, Mr. Martin said those factors will push back deliveries and sales from the second quarter to later in the fiscal year.  “The RV markets remain strong as reflected by the higher traffic and increased sales activity we’ve seen in the early retail shows,” Mr. Martin said.

So let’s hope for warmer weather sooner than later.

Safe travels and happy RVing!
